As an instructor we have the opportunity to give students a pleasant experience in the course we are teaching or actually ruining their perception of the course. What are some activities that can be done to help with moral in a course?
The type of activities really depends on the course of instruction that is being presented. I have used YouTube and Netflix to present short segments of a topic related to the class. I then have the students write a report based upon the observations of the video segment (in the first person). After they have completed the task, I go over the individual reports by reading them out loud in class so each can see how the other student perceives the same event.
I have also had a staged event occur where a person will come into the classroom, have a short dialog with me, then leave. I provide a short questionnaire to the students that cover the conversation and description of the person who came into the room. After the questionnaires are completed I share the results with the class. These techniques apply to their curriculum and make them realize that they need to pay attention to their environment.
