New instructor mistake
Sometimes it is difficult set-up my mind as instructor from been a designer at my own studio. I tend to treat my students as my employers. So, I come to school at least one and half earlier that actual class time and start mental preparation to be an instructor. That way , I would make less careless mistakes.

I have found that a lot of people know how to do something, but they are unsure how it needs to be presented. It sounds like you have things figured out. I like to lecture and then let my students apply by doing what I have lectured.

I knew it would be challenge transitioning from working in my field to training in my field. One of the hardests parts waa not using the short cut meathods that are used in the industry and teaching them first. So i myself had to re-educate and prepare the curiculum to train in the methods i myself was.

Students must realize that they are on a tight time constraint, and that time is of the essence. Some students do not know how to manage their time, and we have to constantly stay on them with time management.

Hello everyone! I would like to chime in as well. One of the notes that I had when conducting classes, is to have a time schedule for the class on the white board. It helped me have control over the class time schedule and student know the expectations as to time management. I learned early on as a new instructor that not having a clear time posted, can make the class (free will) manage their own time that can lead to more arguments as to how they will spend their break when they wanted to. I made sure that everybody is aware of class time and how I (as the class manager) will manage it, so everyone is on the same page. To my experience, it has diminished wasted time that should've been spent for learning and students get time conscious. Thank you.

I concur! We have two sets of customers. We must do a great job to prepare our students so that we keep our employers happy. We have to make the experience a win-win situation for both the students and the employers.

At our school , we tend to think of students as customers ,but we also call the employers that are out there our customers as well .We have to remember that we are catering to both so that it will be a better fit and they reach the expectations of the industry employers.
