Styles of Classroom Management
I just finished with this module and found it not only to be very informative, but kind of "fun". I was able to see myself, as well as, other educators I work with in the lesson. It was interesting to me! What does anyone else think? Any management styles other than the four presented here?
Patricia, one creative approach I have seen used is for students to write a short paragraph or two on their motivations to be successful in school. When you as the instructor notice a student or group of students less motivated, have them take out their documents and discuss their motivations to rekindle their goals and objectives.

How true! I find that some students at the end of their program have lost a lot of the momentum that was carrying them through. I try to find some stories that are inspirational and motivational to help them remember why they are here in the first place. Sometimes, they just need a little nudge.
I agree Judy, it gives us somethign to aspire to. It was interesteing to try and determine the style of the other instructors I work with.
How about motivator? In adult education playing the role of a motivator impacts significantly the learning process, adults are more in need of being motivated than controlled or buddied.
Not only did I evaluate my style of management as well as that of other instructors, I also found myself thinking of other people in my life in terms of those four categories.
Anthony, the guide style does incorporate a little of the other styles. The focus here is to much of the others tends to provide the least amount of student learning.

I think that the styles are dictated by how you think the class should be ran and not purly on your personality.I feel like there are certian levels to each of the four and you have to tailor to each situation. It depends on the situation of the class and your goals.
I've noticed that, unknowingly, I was gravitating more towards Buddy than Guide management. This course helped me understand a little bit more of what comprises each instructor. I am definitely striving now to work towards a more Guide style than Buddy. I will also likely use this information in the future to remind myself of this importance.
Judy, can you share some of the techniques you are using to move closer towards that guide style? This would be a great thread for others to share some of their techniques.

I recognized myself immediately and, although not yet a guide, I will strive for that in the near future.
Christine, great question and I also encourage others to provide their feedback and ideas on other management styles they have seen from their colleagues and other peers. Thanks for any information anyone would like to share.
