CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE

In some schools teachers have very little help from the director of the school with assistance for ill behave students.

I am grateful that working where I work we all tend to have the same mindset as to what is best for the student and school. Where it gets to a little difficult is when an instructor is not sure of himself or herself and asks a fellow what to do... I offer suggestions as to what I would do in a given situation but strongly advise that my method is mine and they should rock what they need to the way they need to.

I had the same issue at a school that I worked that students just seemed to run the school. Finally enough was enough, all the instructors finally had a meeting with the director and his staff informing him of the issues that were going on. Amazingly enough the director didn't have any idea of what was going on. He thanked us for coming forward and stating our issues. We were all able to come up with specific guidelines and rules for our students and knowing that we were all working on the same time was a great relief for us all. After that, their was an immediate change in students behavior.

This is very true. I've been with a college that has seen several different types of management styles when it comes to disciplinary actions for students. If everyone is not on the same page this leads to an non-unified front for the college and students will use this to their advantage and challenge policies and procedures.
