Improving Class Room Mangement
I believe that you must begin with being professional yourself as an instructor. You must also remember that respect begets respect. Once the students see that you are there to assist in their success a positive classroom environment should follow.
I agree as well that respect in the classroom is key. I will definitely utilize the "I" response to bring students who are losing focus back into learning.
I agree that Respect is key in classroom management, I will treat my students with the same respect that I except from them. I also find pointing out the importance of getting there education makes the difference in there success in the work place or getting a job period. I find helping the students to understand this, and to get all they can out of there education while they are in school makes them see clearer and results in making class room management easier.
Dionne, well stated. It is also important to remember that the ownership of student respect is with the instructor. Those instructors that feel students need to be solely responsible for themselves are most likely in the wrong sector of higher education. Students regardless of age need a guide and need structure. It is up to us as instructors to provide that guidance and structure. We provide leadership by the examples we provide to our students.
