The most important soft skills I have found important in my daily work day is common since and listening to others. You may not have to always have a solution to the other persons problem, but a good listener helps. A good pat ont he the back is also good to those of us who have no one in their corner for encouragement.

Terry Marie,
The lines are important and should be well defined. I think there are many out there who believe this as well.

The most important soft skill I can think of is professionalism. It is so important to know th line of professional and friend. Sometimes when you teach in adult education, those lines can be crossed so easily

Kimberly,
All are good ones and many have different opinions on which are best.

I do not feel there is one particular soft skill that is the most important. I feel it's a combination of several soft skills together. Common sense, understanding others, and having a positive attitude are just a few that I think could be some of the most valuable skills in a workplace.

I feel that having a positive attitude and common sense are important to have in the workplace. However I feel that the most important soft skill to have in the workplace is understanding and respecting others.

Adrianne,
I like the quote. True, everyone is different.

I like your practice and I do the same in my classes. However, I do not know if this actually teaches students to have common sense. What comes to mind for me is a saying that goes something along the lines of... "Common sense is not so common after all." One person's thoughts on common sense may not be the same for someone else. We can show them what we believe is appropriate behavior and hope that they model it, but I believe those that have common sense gained it long before they arrived to my post-secondary class.

I believe all of the soft skills discussed are important for success in a workplace. If forced to choose just a few, I would choose having integrity, having a positive attitude, and understanding and respecting others. I believe that these softs skills will lead to effective workplace relationships.

Danielle,
True statements. Work environments and personal environments are two separate things.

Karen,
Knowing that how can we use that to our advantage? Can we use that to our advantage?
Philip Campbell

I think that Dependability, integrity, common sense and positive attitude makes a big difference in how others relate to you. Because it shows a person that you can function in a work environment.

All of the soft skills are important and difficult to teach. As a teacher with 25+ years of experience, the students we have in class now are completely different than say 5 years ago. Todays students would rather text their friends than call them. Technology has really hurt the ability of children to learn soft skills and develope them for the workplace or school.

I think common sense is very important in the work place.

Diane,
Recognizing that each person is different is important. keep doing that and the students will appreciate it as well.
Philip Campbell

I believe the most important soft skill is to be able to pick up on emotions individually and collectively. To be able to sense a change in mood and emotional transtion in the classroom is very important, not only to the students but to the instructor as well.
Being aware of emotions and managing them in a productive manner is an important soft skill in any workplace.

I think being able to see how others are feeling and being able to show empathy are important.

Georgiajo,
Taking feedback from people is one of the hardest things to accept sometimes. Too many times people give unwanted feedback. In the same respect we often do not want feedback especially when it is something that we do not like. BEing able to change how we accept it is important.
Philip Campbell

The ability to take constructive feedback, kindness and empathy towards each other, respect, adaptability. Those are a few that I find to be important.

Matthew,
Good examples using cause and effect. That would be a great tool, thanks for sharing.
