Students do prentations in front of the class, that helps to develop their communication skills.
Francis,
This helps students with critical thinking when they are not thinking about critical thinking!
Shelly Crider
Agree. The presentation assignments are solid proof of crticial thinking, organization (including writing - if the individual or team is proficient and rehearsed) and - most mmportantly, persuasive communication. The instructor team, armed with a good rubric, can have a great impact on larning when presentations are part of the curriculum.
I have the students watch a live demo on how to do the task at hand. Im trying to incorporate a live video so this can be see on the overhead projector.
Brad,
Thank you for enhancing the professionalism in students....if we do not show it, they cannot know the importance of it.
Shelly Crider
In all my design based courses I stress the importance of professional presentations. I have a separate rubric for the presentation. I look at their projection, diction, body language as well as the visual, content and organization of the actually presentation.
Dena,
Good job....if a student does not actually practice what they have learned, they will lose it!
Shelly Crider
I have my senior students do an oral presentation based on their overall practicum experience. There are specific items that are required and carry a certain weight with each item. I also account for their dress, eye contact, body language and grammar/dictation.
Terri,
I love the statement....communication has no boundaries....perfect!
Shelly Crider
Communication has no boundaries...
Students state they think outside the box! Hmmmm...
We provide students the opportunity to collaboratively research and develop assignments which are then presented to the class as a team.
Major projects utilize hard and soft skills developed and learned during weekly assignments.
The final exam is based upon the same skills.
We reinforce the concept of "class front" presentation as a method of developing communication skills.
