The use of computers and the mature adults
Some of the baby boomers may have difficulty using computers and may require more from the teachers.
Richard,
I am glad you have a good start....you have the want!
Shelly Crider
Yes I know I'm one who longs for the good old days I know very very little about how a computer work or what it does, I can find my bank account, email, and ebay, other than that I'm lost, for me I know and will enroll in a computer class, so I can help others, like they, " you can't help others until you help yourself"
Jeff,
Knowing where to sit in a classroom may sound silly, but it is very useful. This cuts down on distractions and can help a student learn.
Shelly Crider
A majority of my students are younger than 30 and have great difficulty operating a computer, even after completing a computer basics class, which is a bit scary. In our classroom all monitors face center so at all times I can monitor the students progress and ensure they are following along with the lesson.
Phyllis,
Adults are so afraid of breaking something! It is good to get them comfortable!
Shelly Crider
It is so apparent when I have a mature adult in my classroom that the computer and any new technology in front of them, they are frightened. I always make sure they become comfortable, and stress the importance of technology education, and how much fun it can actually be.
Agreed Mr. Brooks. I like to pair up a technology saavy student with a mature adult. Whenever working in a group activity I'll tell the student with stronger skills they have to let the mature adult take the driver's seat while the other adult help out whenever needed. It will make both of their skills better in the end.
David,
Good point. There are times we are all overwhelmed, but to be able to work through situations is a critical thinking success!
Shelly Crider
While they my become overwhelmed from time to time they have the persistance to keep trying. That is a quality that is missing in many of the younger generation. If they don't get right away many just stop trying and look for an easy way out.
Thomas,
That is nice of you. Mature students are afraid of technology even the cell phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shelly Crider
Many mature students are overwhelmed with learning computer skills as they are trying to learn the classroom subject. I advise them to focus on one challenge at a time.
Frank,
Having an open mind to change is very important!! There are so many changes that we as employees do not understand, but have to accept.
Shelly Crider
Being one of those baby boomers, like anything in life you have to accept change. Many of us have forgotten when we were open for new knowedege.Computers are here to stay,so we have to change with the times or be left behind. We must open are minds!
Bobbet,
Boomers are trying, but you are right, there are still many who want the good ole days!
