Linda, it is great to use this with physics.

I have alot of physics so I do Jeopardy with the categories and the students love it and they learn. Also they study since they will be called on they want to know the answers in front of their peers.
MARIANNE, I agree and have seen good results from this activity.

The weakest think allows all students to participate and retain information from one another.
Mary, I'm glad you like this one.

I love all of these teaching strategies. I have used them in the past and the students love it. I especially enjoy using the, "Brush With Fame", for HIPAA.
Denise, I'm glad you like these two ideas and I know you will get positive results from them.

I teach A & P lecture and FO Administration. I have been an MA for many years and I have been teaching for 10. I believe that students like things to change up instead of straight lecture. When we discuss the systems I try to get the body part, dissect it and show the students. They get to handle the part and enjoy taking pictures with the organ. I an willing to try new ideas, as long as it helps the students to comprehend. Looking forward to applying the Eyes and Ears and the Weakest Think. Most of our students act on impulse and have issues with critical thinking. Thanks for the ideas.
I definately like the "Weakest Think". It is unfortunate that most of these students operate on impulse instead of critical thinking. I can't wait to put it in effect in class. I will also try the "Eyes and Ears".
Grace , this is a strategy that invites students to think critically and apply knowledge they will need on the job. Keep up the good work.

Role playing fits my teaching style best because I can assess the student and bring real life activities to the classroom. I push the students to take the next step and think critically. They also learn to problem-solve on their own.
I use a lot of role playing games and examples for students. It helps them to visualize the scenario and think about the next step in the process. I encourage them to see it from their POV as well as from the patient's and the practitioner. Did they get enough information, communicate well, were they sympathetic to the patient, did they maintain professionalism?
kristine, thanks for sharing this successful strategy.

I use hands on methods the most.... Bingo, gestures, signs... Doing the macarena with pulse points.. and I tell stories they relate too, an example is: I tell the "bear Story" to explain the sympathetic nervous system. If your getting chased by a bear on the way to macdonald's: What happens to your pulse? heartrate? how is your skin feeling? are you hungry? do you have to urinate? These types of hands on and life relating stories work best for me because my students seem to get the concepts better and im very animated, the combination of the two has proven time and time again to be very successful learning tools for me as well as my students
Michael, I agree, hands on methods work well.

I plan on using "Eyes or Ears" as a teaching strategy for a group of nursing students on their first day of clinical rotation at a new hospital. I believe this will serve as a pivotal point in "looking beyond the obvious" and hope that it will create a helpful impression/experience which they can draw from whenever they will be assessing/interacting with clients in the future.
Lisa, I'm so glad these are your favorities.

I agree. The students can work together and help others overcome anxiety that they may be feeling. Some may not realize the importance of these real situations and may have theris eyes opened to what can happen if they are not prepared.
