Nicolas, I agree that it is a professional necessity to be a life long learner in the medical field.
Michele Deck
It would be advantageous to see if the methods that I use to help students retain information would work for myself.
I strongly believe that learning in the field I choose: medical field is somthing you begin....but really never ends...learning in this or any field,is for the rest of our lives...something that never ends...everyday we learn something new...
stacy, it would be great if we knew how we are perceived. Thanks for taking the course.
Michele Deck
I would enjoy seeing how I am perceived by others. It would also be beneficial to see teaching strategies that seem more engaging as well as teaching strategies that might need more improvement.
catherine, you are smart to relate career topics to current events. That shows the learners relevance.
Michele Deck
Bethanne, it is a gift to be naturally animated. If you can make your classes interesting, the students will be more engaged.
Michele Deck
I engage students in interesting topics...related to the subject matter of the day...and also to current events
I tend to be very animated. I generally don't have difficulty keeping students' attention. I enjoy listening to people who are interesting as opposed to dry. If I add activities to my animated lecture material, it should prove to only make my topics more fun and engaging.
Tammy , a great classroom allows the students to connect in a positive way.
Michele Deck
I am always postive and it is important that my studetns are not only enagement but comfortabel enough to ask questions without feeling like they are wrong.
Your research and own ideas enhance your credibility.
We should always evaluate students by asking questions after the lecture.
Jacqueline, I think your students will actively compete to win five minutes of their time back. This sounds like a successful idea, thanks for sharing it.
Michele Deck
James, I agree. The instructor has to be a great observer, listener and assessor to pick up on this.
Michele Deck
I would want to be a learner in my class because I teach medical coding and it is very interactive. We also do coding activities in teams with incentives to the winning team such as leaving 5 minutes earlier than other students who did not win.
Same for me. I always use the word "think". When we learn a new term I will have the students look up ways to use the word. Once it's used in a sentence, it sticks.
I believe that the learners in our classes can teach us how they learn if we pay attention to them and their own non-verbal responses to what we say and do in class...
Taryn, being a learner in your own class does offer a number of different perspectives.
Michele Deck
Being a learner in my own class gives me a perspective that I wouldn't have if I just continue teaching with only one point of view of the course work. As the learner, I get insight to my own strengths and weaknesses.
Additionally, I need to be open to what I can learn from students not just about teaching styles and techniques, but about the cultural and environmental influences affecting my students.
