Long-term memory and critical thinking

It is possible to give a talk of 10 to 15 minutes on basic concepts of a topic and discuss it the 50 minutes remaining, keep the interest on the topic for 10 to 15 minutes and reinforcement with different activities for 50 minutes. ¨Long-term memory and creating the critical thinking¨
This may be a good strategy when we have classes with 2 or more hours, with great academic containg.

¨Rote memorization does not foster critical thinking with content, but interactive learning activities can get people to think¨

Thanks.

I also agree; and find that the students stay interested and focused on class.

Deborah, I agree this active approach does not have to take more time, it takes a difference mindset.

You are right that would be great if you had two hours for classes how ever usually the curiculum doesnt allow that much time. I find if you get heavy into lecture for ten minutes or so then you can break it up by asking the students "What do you think this means"? you now have more interest or if a student gets some of the answer you can ask the rest of the class "Can anyone help him out"? It works pretty well. For fun especially with medical terminology have them make up a song with the term words or a rhyme.

Gloria, I like your point of few and your focus on critical thinking. Thanks for sharing!
