"Audio" flash cards
This goes toward the point about repetition:
AUDIO FLASH CARDS"
I found that using visual flash cards involved a lot of preparation time and I tended to drive dangerously when studying/reviewing on the way to school.
Instead, I purchased a CHEAP digital recorder (now they are free as apps for smart phones!) and imported everything to iTunes to make AUDIO FLASH CARDS. These were formatted as Question / Pause / Answer and I would group no more than about 10 questions per set.
I would assign the iTunes headers to my own structures: i.e., "Album" became "Class", "Genre" became "Body Region", "Artist" became "Discipline - Cardiology, Pharmacology, Ortho, etc.".
To use the "cards", it was only necessary to select what was to be reviewed and keep my hand on the play/pause button of my iPod. By the 3rd or 4th pass, I would OWN the material.
I found that by using smart playlists in iTunes, I could review by exam, class, test, discipline, body region, etc., and I could make use of my driving time without worry of causing an accident.
I now talk about this to each class, and (for those who are interested), show them how to do it.
Deb, this is a workable strategy for those who must commute.

We too have a disc for student use included with every text. Students are able to listen and not have to look away, especially if driving.
I think it's also helpful for students to record their pronouncation of medical words, and then for review, go back and listen to their recordings.
Patricia, thanks so much. Quiz let is a great app/ teaching tool that few learners know about. I appreciate your thoughts about its use.

while this is not an audio to listen to while driving I have found that using quizlet to design flash cards and also having students to design sets they are more involved in the process.
Also the quizlet site has an app and they are able to acces it from their smart phones.
Cassandra, I agree that correct pronunciation of terms is an essential skill for job and career success.

My new text book actually came with something similar. There is a disc that has mp3 sound bits of the medical terms and their correct pronunciation.
This is often overlooked as students typically only have to be able to recognize the words on an exam. Being able to properly speak using these terms creates much more competent employees.
unique, finding easy ways to incorporate technology makes it more engaging for technology lovers.

I like the idea of bring technology into the classroom. Many people have these devices and to have it moble for them to travel with them will be very easy and help reinforce the learning capabilities.
David, thank you for sharing your audio flash card idea. I once had a student who did something similar with the textbook chapters. She made audio files on iTunes and listened in the car as you do.
