Ball tossing
I plan on using this method of learning becuase it aligns better with my methodology of teaching and places the learners in the spot light to see if they have retained key points of the day's lesson and an opportuntity to explain it to its peers.
I enjoy this method, but learned the hard way that it may not be the best ice-breaker for the first day of class. I didn't realize the students wouldn't know eachothers names. They felt very uncomfortable as they didn't know who to throw the ball to. I had to stop the game and redirect. I will continue to use it, just further into the term!
Pilar, post it notes also stick on to beach balls and are easily changeable. Thanks for sharing this idea.

I actually have used a slight variation of this method, and it worked quite well. I used an inflatable beach ball that I stuck address labels with review questions from the lecture materials on them onto the ball. Students then started throwing the ball to each other and had to pick an unanswered question which they had to then answer and pass the ball to someone else.
