Jeopardy

Using "games" to reinforce students knowledge is an excellent teaching tool. I have used Jeopardy in the past. This is geared toward the veteran learners. Using "$100" for prefixes, suffixes and root words. Going up to $200" for combined forms, progressing upwards where students actually have to describe symptoms and or signs for diseases in the $500 category. This is an excellent overall review at the end of semesters. The Secret Identity activity is an excellent way to open up a new chapter. I used this method today and was a huge success.

I have used jeopardy in other classes, but never for medical terminology. I like the way you break it down in the different dollar amounts. I am definitely going to use this the next time I am teaching medical terminology.

I also think the Secret Identity exercise is a great way for new students to interact and meet each other.

I agree, we use jeopardy a great deal in our class, as it creates a fun environment and is a great tool for revision and to clarify material before a test. Students love the competition and 'egg' on their fellow students in a spirited nature to participate.

I typically use Jeopardy for the midterm and final reviews since its quite time consuming. And I make sure to deduct points for wrong answers to deter people from shouting out.

alyson, you can create a jeopardy board on a poster board or piece of foam core. Cut envelopes in half and label them with point values. Place an index card with the question( in jeopsrdy its answers) in the envelope. That way you and the students can see which questions have not been answered, as those envelopes would be empty. Place them in rows under your categories. Hope this helps.

What is an inexpensive way to make a Jeopardy game board??

I have heard alot of instructors talk about how fun Jeopardy is and I really want to try it, but not sure how to to go about creating the board??

I think this would be fun, esp for review before an exam.

Jeopardy along with BINGO are favorites in my classroom. I feel the repetition and competition motivates my students to do their best. I find that when they know a review game is in our daily plan, they are more attentive to the lesson and retain the information.

Demetrias, if you have played it then you know it is npot only fun, but that people learn from it.

I agree. I have not only used Jeopardy to teach medical terminolgy but also teaching my students when and when not to use CPT and HCPCS modifiers. They love it and everyone is involved.
