Secret Identity
Using the secret identity game to involve students, will have the students moving around the classroom interacting with one another, which builds relationships with other classmates, as well as giving the opportunity to stretch their legs.
This game also optimizes the chance for the students not only to learn the subject matter such as a term and definition, but also gives the students much needed experience in asking open ended questions to get the answers, which will also spill over in practical settings when the students must interact with clients in order to ask appropriate questions to get much needed information on the patient. It is also an opportunity for the instructor to be involved in the class activity, which promotes shared learning.
Gale, I agree that the educational risk in this activity is very low when all are involved.

This will be my 1st choice to get everyone up, moving and working together. It is low key and nobody will feel put on the spot when starting a new class, chapter or subject matter.
Jason, I can assure you that I have used this idea and have had great success with it. I know you will, too. Happy new year.

Eureka!!!!! I have been racking my brain trying to find a game that would get my class, which is usually about 15 students, to stand up and engage in the lesson. I have tried having volunteers to review the content from that day's lecture, but that wasn't very effective. I will now incorporate the secret identity game into my lesson plans. I have a feeling it will be a hit in my class.
Patricia, a group of extroverts will love this activity. They will focus on the fun and we will know they are reviewing and learning to think and problem solve.

I plan on trying several of the activities in my med term class. Secret identity is the one I will try first as I have a class of extroverts!
Beth, you are welcome. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on how you will apply it to your class.

I love this activity and cannot wait to try it in class. I am actually going to try it in my Intro to Health Insurance class; there are many key terms and concepts for the students to grasp. Students will like the interaction and also my participation as well. Thank you for this great activity!!
Angela, you have encapsulated the benefits of this activity. Seeing the value is an important instructor skill.
