Word search

Word search is a great method of teaching medical terms. The students find the terms and spelling is learned also. It is great for home work.

Jon , this is a great preclass introduction to content.

I also like to use word-searches as a precursor to the material I will be covering in the next class period. Repetition and exposure with the words helps out with the students' retention.

I agree word search is a great tool to do medical words

TIMOTHY, anxiety gets in the way of learning, any way we can reduce that we should.

I like the idea of "game/quiz" as means of eleminating student anxiety.

I like that you see value in the review and reinforcement value of the puzzles.

word search is good but crossword puzzle i like better. Definition and spelling are used and students will also have to open their books to research for answers. I try to use them as"time fillers"-I dont grade them but I check that they have been worked on.

Nowadays is easy to create them thanks for some online pages that allow you to do it for free, crosswords and word search puzzles.

I agree- our med term & one of the comprehensive books have word searches, and the students like doing them- others prefer the crossword puzzles- either way, both books' publishers knew to include these puzzles, and I'm glad- they are a light & recreational way to learn. I find it fun to give them as a quick quiz, too- the students always laugh and smile when they find out that their quiz is a 'game'- it really lessens test anxiety!

When students have success, it makes them motivated to accomplish more.

I find that the students also develope a confidence when the ability to recognize a word is in front of them.

I agree. when you use word search it dose help with spelling and recognize the word for their test. I would giving the definition for them to search for the word.

Creating the word searches required they had mastered the terms. Great idea!

I'm glad this has reminded you of an idea you used successfully as a student.

Word Search sometimes for our classes is a break between all the anatomy that has been drilled in their heads. They like it and then seem to get back on track to focus.

Loving it.

I had one class of mind divided into teams to create their own word searches. Too fun; they were all engaged.

I haven't had the opportunity to use word search puzzles yet but I am looking forward to it. I used them when I was a student and I really enjoyed them and learned from them.

I like to use this for homework, too.
