creative activities

It is very beneficial for the students to be creative in any way they can, so the learning is not a burdon and hard

Karen, using an activity does not have to be an extra, it can be the way to teach something. Just because you lecture on a topic does not mean everyone will remember it.

I agree creative activities help tremendously. The challenge I have is getting through all the material If we break for activities it means I can't get all the material presented to them and the students have to learn the rest on their own from the text.

Kelly, it is always interesting to see how the students think about your content and lesson.

I also divide diseases from our chapters and assign each student one to present to the class. I enjoy their creativity with their visuals.

Christina, I'm glad you recognize the value of these activities and I hope you use them.

I agree that some of the material is in fact "dry" and needs to be spiced up. These are more great ideas to spice up the learning.

I also am tasked with teaching dry material. In the past some of my students have really enjoyed activities while others seem insulted. I think I may turn it around on them next time, and have them come up with activity ideas. After proofing them I may put them in a hat and draw from it throughout the course.

Kimberly, this is a wonderful suggestion. Thank you for sharing it!

I agree, I assign each student a disease or condition as a report that they must present to the class. It helps them to learn and also for their classmates to learn. Its also a good tool for students that don't participate much in class.

When teaching the terms of the animal cell, I ask the students to draw the cell encompassing all components of the cell. I encourage them to be creative and provide them with markers, crayons, and color pencils. I find this a beneficial creative activity that reaches out to the kinesthetic and visual learners.

Creative and group interaction also creates innovation in thinking and enhance social skills.

Some of the material I teach is so dry that in order to "keep" the student, it is required to be creative with some form of activity

Melissa, using your creativity is a skill that instructors need to use.

Creative learning is a good tool, not every student learns the same way, thinking up new idease to keep your class engaged is always good to do

Each individual learns differently, especially older learners.Creative learning is fun and allows the learn to discover a new style of learning to comprehend the lesson. When learning is made fun, learners tend to enjoy the course versus watching the clock to see how much time before this class is over.

Afshan, I agree that teachers should encourage the students to learn creatively.
