visual leaners
I have found that I have a lot of visual leaners in my class. I like to lecture on a topic than use visuals for the students to see. Visuals and hands on work great for my students.
William, it is sometimes difficult to get them to see what is not real life, but pictures. As much involvement as we can incorporate the better.

Many student find that real world use as example is the best visual picture you can give them.
I think that adapting your style to your student is a very interesting and good way to keep them engaged.
sheila, technology can be a great reinforcement of our content and a curiosity builder for future lessons.

I am a hands on visual learner as well and when I can see it, and then complete the task I will retain the information so much better. This is why it is so important to have technology in the classrooms for our younger generation learners. They love to use technology in the classroom to reinforce the lecture topics.
Judy, thanks for sharing your toilet flushing analogy. I know learners sometimes provide ideas that are better than mine.

I use "real world" things as examples during my lectures such as the flushing of a toilet when talking about blood flowing thru valves in the heart. I also have my students try to come up with some "real world" examples and have them bring them in and explain how they relate to specific body parts for some of their projects. It is amazing what they will come up with sometimes and it really helps my visual learners to be able to see the concept as opposed to simply talking about it.
Amy, I'm glad your students respond positively to visual teaching methods. That is true for most classes.
