Basic Structure of Word Roots

The best way to remember medical terminology is to make flash cards and learn prefixxes, suffixes and root words based o body parts. The student will learn by drill and remote training.

Bridget, it is nice that there is this fun and competetive app to facilitate review and learning.

I have been using quizlet alot lately, for medical terminology and other courses and it is my favorite place to go.

I have my students making flashcards and review the first 10min of class as a group

Karen, this is a tried and true method, but one some instructors overlook. Thank you for sharing your success using them.

I have been encouraging students to make flash cards for years in all subjects taught, but especially medical terminology. It has definitely proven to enhance the students learning.

Jamie, thank you for sharing your success with flash cards. I also like the app Quizlet which pretty much does the same thing but on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Yes I agree. I had my students make flash cards prior to their chapt test and they did much better than on the quiz.

Jamie, Amy type of game or review activity does increase memory of the content with learners.

I agree I have encouraged my students to make flashcards as well. Repetition is the key. The more you use it the easier it will be to remember.

Sophia, this practice will also allow your students flexibility in forming and breaking words into parts.

I agree. Rather than make cards for "words" I ask students to make cards for prefixes, suffixes, & combining forms. That way once thaye've learned the term they'll remember it regardless of where it's used.
