Frame of Mind on Learning

What impact does frame of mind have on the learning process?

Instructors should view themselves as evaluators. With that in mind, they should not only evaluate student but assess the effect of their teaching on students. Teachers should seek feedback about their theaching thus adapt, change or continue their methods. By getting to know students frame of mind, they will assess individual differences and adapt accordingly.

If the instructor is not focused on the material for class then the students miss out on information and they will also not be focused on the work.

The frame of mind has a strong impact on the learning process. Being well-focused can improve the learning process.

Sharika, I agree with your observation here.

True. We cannot fix all things. Frame of mind can either make or break a student. Even if their heart is there, if the mind is not there the student does not gain.

Frame of mind is everything in the classroom setting. Students often need to be reminded of the goal and the road to getting there. If they can be motivated to do their best, they are open to learn.

Kitt, giving one's personal best is all we can ask any learner to do.

The students frame of mind is of the utmost importance.
I have found in most cases, showing a personal interest in the student can help them to get the job done. I always encourage my
students to do their personal best based on the circumstances they are facing in life.

Jennifer, not only must we be open to new methods of learning, but the students must be open to many new experiences.

Frame of mind, of both the student and instructor, plays a large role in learning. If someone is in a positive frame of mind, they are more likely to be open to learning new ideas and concepts. This is especially true when facing methods of learning that may be different from what you are used to. Being open to new methods of learning will allow you to expand your own ideas and gain from learning a new perspective.

I teach Dental Hygiene. Frame of Mind in any program is important, and I find that I must keep my students focused on patient/clinical care and today's appt. Many things maybe going on with their family, support group, other courses, etc. But when delivering local anesthesia, for example, they need to be 100% in tune with the patient, their medications and vital signs.

Our frame of mind has a lot to do with how we learn, and also how we as instructors can create a constructive learning environment. The information provided in this learning module has helped me tremendously in understanding how others fall into different learning categories. This information will serve me better in reaching my students and help them in ways that benefit them.

Tammy, we never know which student will have these challenges. That is one thing that makes our jobs interesting.

It can be very negative or positive. If someone is upset or angry about something personal they will have a hard time concentrating. If they are happy and well rested they tend to be more focused.

If you are upset about person problems or work issues it is hard to focus on what you need to do and learn. I would say frame of mine is very important.

Frame of mind is critical. A student must be motivated to learn and ready to learn or no learning will take place no matter how many methodologies employed by faculty.

James, these are sure signs that the learners are not engaged.

This is so true, both parties need to be on the same page and have the mind in the game (class room), sometimes as an educator you find students either day dreaming, whispering with another student will give you the understanding that the students is not paying attention therefore, not getting the material or wanting to take part in the topic/discussion. We need to find a way to bring them back to the subject at hand.

Carolyn, it is hard to change and be open to new ideas and practices. Helping them along the way is an instructor's job.
