Creative Teaching Tools in Clinical and Didactic Courses --> Visual and Kinesthetic Teaching Tools: Part 2

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

This course gets you thinking about creative ideas to drive the information home.

I will never look at pizza the same.  Great exercises.

Great ideas shared! Catchy songs are usually a hit with the students for ways to memorize topics

These are great ideas-and yes not all ideas will work-but we can also try other ideas using these as a springboard to assit with learning for students.

It is so hard to memorize the ABG gases per my students, I think using pizza activity will be great to apply. Macarena and dancing will be fun and informative.

I learned activities such as "Pulse Point Macarena", "ABG Go FIsh" etc to keep my students engange in their learning. I am planning to give a try to these activities!

Wow, great to have these activities as examples of what kinds of lessons are possible as an instructor.  Great examples of how to break the habit of rote memorization.

These are awesome ideas, I have not come across most of them.

Creativity aids memorization

Using a song to assist with memory recall is a great teaching tool.  The 'Macrena' song is great to use on the pulses. This can be done in person, online or hybrid class sessions.

I liked the ABG Go Fish. I will implement this one next semester. Thank you for such wonderful ideas.

Visual tools are great

These are learning tools I will definitely be trying with students. making learning more fun and  at the same time while using critical thinking and active learning technique

Games provide active learning/retention.

I love all of these ideas and cannot wait to get in the classroom to try them!

These exercises were very creative!  I can't wait to try them.

I learned about how to increase understanding of ABG.s by color differentiation. I will implement this.

Explaining muscles by spaghetti noodles, ABG by go fish and acid-base by Pizza all sounds interesting . It can be confusing to students as well. Alllowing students to feel their own muscles...showing them what is acidic (lemons)and what is alkaline (Vinegar ) also helps...Learning a few things can help: Normal ph 7.35-7.45

metabolic: high ph/high O2=alkalosis

Metabolic: low PH/ Low O2=acidosis

Respiratory: Low ph/ High Co2= acidosis

Respiratory: High ph/ low Co2=alkalosis

I have learned that there are many different ways to add to your lecture kinetically. You can use raw spaghettic noodles to teach anatomy and physiology that serves to allow the students to see how muscles work. I was also so excited by ABC fish which can be used to help students gain knowledge with blood gases, I subject I struggled with when I was in school. I will always be willing to sing the Macarena. So I think I can add a great deal to my lectures by utilizing any of these great tools.
