The only way students to communicate
The only way students to communicate is thru syllabus, study guides, and other handsout materials.
Angela,
It is really not much different than this thread we have going. I love hearing about your experiences and ideas!
Shelly Crider
I agree it's a great way to connect with students! They find that you have had similar experiences as they have and it makes you seem more "human." It's also a really great way to expand upon the discussion question for the week and go beyond what's being asked in the required question. I like including links and posing further questions that requires them to research it online. I've gotten good feedback from students on this and many have told me they enjoyed researching a particular subject and found it interesting. Since I teach at a health careers school, many times it touches home for them as the student or a family member have first-hand experience with a certain medical condition, and they end up learning things about that condition they didn't know before.
Dr. Francis,
Email is very effective as many students have access to email via their smart phones or when it is convenient for them.
Shelly Crider
In addition to all the listed communication medium, I will add that the email communication medium in online educational environment is highly preferred by students. It is very easy to manage, especially in this era of advanced technological cell phone usage, students and faculty members can interact with each other at any given time or place.
Mario ,
This is true. Student's love feedback, and feedback that is timely and relevant.

Whether live or post, here all are able to see their knowledge level and to work to gain more knowledge---
Discussions are a great way to communicate with students. It is an essential part of the participation of each student and how much they want to interact with other students. Is it an excellent way for students to share their work and give feedback to other student's work at the same time. It is also good to critique the work some of the student's are doing in the class. Email is always a good way to contact a student too. Some students prefer email to ask questions or pose concerns about an online course.
Yes discussion boards are great for connection and I love them! I want to add that I have even learned from my students through the discussion boards. Many students are experts in their fields and sharing their expertise educate their peers and instructor!
Kimberly ,
I do love the discussion forum. You can really connect with a student.
Shelly Crider
I agree with you; one of the most popular ways of interactions used online is the forum or discussion board. This is the place where students can post comments or reactions to a particular topic on the board. It allows other students to respond to it which means everyone gets the chance to give his/her own share about the topic.
Patricia,
Be sure to utilitze the discussion board and live chat. Students love these items.
