Pre Organized syllabus

I find that a pre organized syllabus ,created by the institution, somewhat takes away from the authority of the instructor. After reviewing the syllabus I find that there are some things that I would like to change after teaching the course a number of times; however, I am told I must follow the syllabus already in place in the class. Any thoughts on this? Is there a way I can make a suggestion on some of the course material and be heard by my institution?

make suggestion to improve course material is always beneficial to student

Hello Ra'kia, you're right, many of the online schools I've worked for have pre-organized syllabi. In the beginning of teaching online, it was unnerving to feel pigeonholed into something that I did not create. However, my creativity comes along during the chats. At that point, I can put a specific spin to what my expectations are and still hold student's accountable to that information. It also helps me to ascertain who has listened to the recorded chat if they were not able to attend.

Ra'kia,
Most of the time the syllabus has been reviewed by the accrediting agency that the school has. In order to change a syllabus, the accrediting agency has to approve. That is the scoop on the syllabus.
