Chats
I feel that chats are the most useful tool in an online class. This is the only time that an instructor can teach. By teaching, the students can learn by hearing the story and have the ability to ask question as they think of them.

I too love the chats Walter. It's a great time for interaction with our students to address their immediate questions and concerns.
Walter,
I agree, the chat room is the only time a teacher teaches. At least that is how it feels. I like when the students engage in chats but I rarely have the students to show up.
I actually like the Live Labs better than the chat room. I get to do a presentation and then get to discuss. i have more students attend that then the chat room.

I agree, I enjoy my chat sessions but at times it is hrd to get students to attend. This is my opportunity to emphasize important areas within the lesson or clarify topics. However students dont seem to want to participate. How can we get students more engaged in attending chat sessions?
I have used chats, especially when a student is having difficulty in a subject, then I have schedule private chats for a student and this can for the sake the struggling student can feel like they are being tutored by the instructor.
Walter,
I love the chats as well. It bring the class to life really!
