This is an interesting discussion, particularly because most of us have either sat waiting for students to attend or have slogged through with one student (which is actually great for building rapport but can also be deadening if that student doesn't participate).
I understand Nancy's point about schedules, but perhaps there should be a minimum participation requirement, such as students are allowed to miss up to so many chats. I also tend to think that either the live chats should be mandatory or they should not be held at all. Any thoughts?
Lastly, when I am lucky enough to get several students in a live chat I wonder whether they are all actually engaged or just logged in and doing something else...

Hi,
I think this makes a lot of sense but because of the individual schedules and geographic distribution of the students and instructors I do not feel this would be possible.
It would be great if viewing archived chats were a requirement however, especially due to the fact that 75% of the questions received from students are answered in great detail in the live chats.
Thank you,
Nancy
