I’ve had hard times trying to assist some otherwise efficient learners with the course material that struggled with grasping the old mechanical technology necessary to understand the new online learning materials.
Dawn,
Yes, we still cannot assume that all students have the same acceptance of new technology. Like driving a car, it is only when they actually use it that they begin to understand what it can do - often that's all it takes and then they are "hooked" :) Sometimes it takes longer, I agree.

Student are more and more technical these days. They are willing and open to learn new software and hardware. I do find there are a few students, (mostly much older then traditional college age) who are resistant to technology. It's almost as if they shut down and refuse to try. I try to stress not to be afraid of technology that failing at it is only a way to learn. For example if they do something wrong, they know the next time how to do it right. It's the backbone of computational thinking. Sometimes students emotions get in the way of learning though. Wish I could help them and reassure them. We all struggle with learning something new but it is never too late to learn.
Trying to keep up with technology is virtualy imposible I myself am older and find that the more I learn the easyer it is to grasp some of these new aspects of technical suport today. The students will be glad to introduce you to some of the newest technologies out ther right now. So in a way they teach me and I teach them .Now I have a tablet,4g phone, and a new computer and I'm having fun.
Wilfred,
Yes, there is often a dis-connect as technology changes so quickly. How have you addressed these challenges specifically?
