The interactive white board allows me to draw and discuss concepts in real-time with my students. We have done simultaneous exercises with group participation which effectively simulates a face to face classroom experience in some cases. My student engagement increases when these tools are used on a regular basis. Other interactive components like polls/surveys and the use of video/audio support also enhances the interactive and community aspects of the class.

I find that students enjoy using this because they become more involved in the process, which gives each student more ownership and control of his/her learning environment. The only time I interject is when the group is getting off topic.
I can give you the text book answer but I am not sure how to get an interactive white board as an online tool to use as 3 D? I am asuming white baords and smart boards are similar but not 100% postive. I have never seen this in action so I am limited to commenting on the subject.
I have heard of Black boards for the online course so student can use to post messages, comments. and even discussions. Please enlighten me on the white board.
The whiteboard is a neat tool to collect ideas and thoughts from students (and the instructor) and put them “up there.†Like other tools (I like PowerPoint) students can see text and images and then discuss concepts and their meaning, importance, etc. The whiteboard available in the chat session at my school is more limited to what some participants here apparently have; but even with its limitations, students can still interact through its use. There is the ability for students to be presenters so that may directly manipulate the board as well, but this takes some well-defined guidelines to control the interaction and then get control of the course again. The use of technology to make instruction more engaging is making inroads constantly. I like the notion of the tablet and the smart phone as instructional tools. With online courses (and lower prices of reasonably good hardware) students are more apt to have the various tools.
Sorry - I believe it often does not - I still see too many instructors using the whiteboard in a sage on the the stage model. I use the interactive whiteboard for students to showcase the work they did on their own mobile devices, but this is not the norm.

Great ideas! Yes, capturing and distributing are the central functions that really enhance the learning process...discussions and brainstorms can be captured and everything can be distributed to the entire class or to groups.

Interactive whiteboard can enhance a lecture by have everyone participate. You could have one student add one part of the diagram and the next student another part till they have a complete drawing. It can then be saved and uploaded to the web for future use.
I could see using it in my networking class. Having students add the different part of a network and connection correctly.
With mathematical equations and working through them I find they are helpful to see the thought and logical process. This way I can go through several examples and do them side by side on the white board and let them see the steps are similar and they can compare and mimic them too. You can also get student feedback and add their information/data/input to them directly vs if you were using just slides with your only own input. You can add their variables.
I use the 'whiteboard' during course discussion. It provides a source of visual aid, which also promotes student interaction/engagement with the course material. The 'whiteboard' is an excellent learning tool.

the white board is very important to make comunication fase to fase with students
You can use it to capture key points from the course objectives and then have students share their throughts and experiences about each of the objectives. You could also ask studetns to share information on a particular critical thinking or discussion question.

I have seen other schools use interactive white boards, however these are not used in our classroom. Most recently, I was able to experience an interactive white board during product reasearch and development. It was a great way of introducing inforamtion to everyone through video, internet and power point presentations.

Additionally, the interactive white board has the capability to capture the lesson interactions which can then be distributed to the entire student group - this helps with missing students and provides resources that can be archived for continual access and use.
