Authentic assessment

My students seem to view the completion of the on-line assessment as a neccessary evil rather than beneficial. For some reason they value hands-on training more than the on-line assessments.

David,
True and every discipline will have its own methods to demonstrate "authentic" knowledge and ability.

It is interesting to see how much most students like hands-on training. I think, in most cases, they see it as providing more value to them personally.

Knowledge from hands on assessments and from informational assessment are equally important

Mine also value the hands on however both assesments are required.

Wilfred,

I don't see that as a strange reality, given all the research that supports the notion that hands on learning is the most successful when dealing with applied skills and technology. That is why we are challenged to find methods of assessment that demonstrate that kind of learning rather than simply repeating information. Do you have assessment ideas to share?
