Assessment

Assessing my students really involves making the effort to understand their learning process. A study noted implications for the necessity to emphasize increased strategies to improve motivation and participation in online discussions (part of process of learning in the e-environment) (Changiz, Haghani, & Nowroozi, 2013)

Karely,
The methods and design of assessment should emerge from the learning outcomes and the need to demonstrate the learning that has taken place. So in addition to quizzes and tests, other activities can be used to demonstrate learning

Dr. Ruth Reynard

The final purpose of assessment practices in education depends on the theoretical framework of the practitioners and researchers, their assumptions and beliefs about the nature of human mind, the origin of knowledge, and the process of learning.

Bernadette,
Great! Ongoing assessment is the best way to go when using new technology. It really focuses on the process which is key.

Dr. Ruth Reynard

From my experiences I like doing an assessment prior to the course start as well as the end. I know it may vary depending on your course but the outcome can give you a true picture of the design of the content, as well as did the student really learn the material

Thank you so much for your insight here.

Heidi,
The learning process has always been the important part of learning, as you know, but now with new technology we can actually "see" or observe more of the students' thinking processes and application processes. These give us a much clearer idea of what students are actually learning and how well they are understanding the material. It does mean, however, the use of a variety of tools both synchronous and asynchrous in order to do this.
