Online library is a great resource for the instructor and the online student. The library is easy to use and provides hands on answers to questions around copyright

Both of the schools where I teach online have libraries. I teach math and algebra, so have not had much interaction with the librarians. I will definitely consult with them when there is any material that I want to use that may be a problem related to copyright.

June,
They can really save your life!

The librarians are very knowledgeable and offer training and guidelines for all involved.

From what I understand getting permission is easy to get.

I assume our library does.

Markia,
Sorry that you have no library. Maybe a local librarian would be able to assist you. You never know until you ask.

We do not have a library on our premises, so we would have to use the public library. But, I agree that it is such a useful resource that people have seem to forgotten about!

we do not have a librarians or a library, we must be very careful not to use or show Trade names or very precise machinery by a manufactory
sure is a mine field for us

As everyone has stated so far--the library. At my institution our Director of Library Services is the point of contact for copyright questions/obtaining permission for use of copyrighted material.

I think the library is probably the most knowledgeable area, or at least it should be.

Definitely the library! It is surprising how many people do not use this amazing resource!

Robert,

Many times, they are just happy that you are asking for permission.

The library should be the most helpful in helping with e-reserves. I've found this to be the case of acquiring key journal articles or expanding on the library's subscription list. They have also helped me clear excerpts from books including diagrams that I've wanted to use. Since I began teaching in the healthcare area the AIU library has expanded their subscription list significantly. Another source I use are the associations in which I'm a member. Some produce newsletters, blogs, etc. If something from the association is useful to a class I approach the association staff for permission. If they aren't comfortable providing it they are helpful in contacting authors and other members for the appropriate permission It is very important to get this type of permission in writing.

The most knowledgeable areas of the campus on e-reserve is normally libraries. Thanks, Tom
