First of all, one's first line of defense is the library when it comes to understanding copyright laws. However, since it is an instructor's obligation to maintain the integrity of the subject matter presented the following should be followed:

2. Maintain a close relationship with the library or resource center.
3. Start the copyright process early in the course development stage.

Does anyone have any tips on how to actually reach people? I have tried and failed when requesting copyright information.

Inquire and understand the institution's copyright policy. Instructors should also develop their own copyright checklist. This can be patterned on other higher institution's checklists as mentioned in the lesson. Instructors should also look for opportunities to share their knowledge and concerns about copyright law with others in their institution.

Seek for permission for copyrighted materials, use a checklist to plan, to obtain required course materials, and to educated students and to be a role model to them on the proper use of copyrighted materials.
