Different technological tools
Which of the tools of technology have you found to be the most helpful for you and your students?
Keith,
How do you get students to attend your live classes. Do you give them participation points?
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
The tool that I have found most helpful is the live classes. It gives them a chance to answer questions live. I also like the discussion board forums so students can meet their classmates and feel like they are in a "real" class.
Mischel,
Great strategies for learning. When you bring in the multimedia aspect, you really enrich the learning of students.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
I find the use of virtual classrooms very helpful in conveying complex theories or concepts. Using the whiteboard in either WebEx or Collaborate is a great tool to demonstrate explanations step-by-step.
Breezy,
I agree with you. I too love Screen Capture. It allows me to take care of problems quickly and efficiently by creating tutorials and little vignettes. I use it for every class.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
The tools that I have found to be most useful with my students are the following:
Screen capture program because I find it easier to content with my students and to see where they are having issues on an assignment and also by using this tool it allows me to perform screen shots as well as give directions. Also I have found that the virtual classroom is also a big help when it comes to talking to students and also sharring documents with the class as a whole.
Jason,
Well, I looked at edmodo up and it seems to be more like an LMS. You could use it but you may have more powerful tools with your institution's lms.
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
So would something like Edmodo.com be a good tool to use?
Kimberley,
I agree with you. The discussion board can be such a powerful tool. Have you ever allowed the students to lead the discussion?
Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
I agree discussion boards allow me to respond to each student and tailor my answers based on their posts. I feel that I can have a conversation with my students through the discussion board and they can see that I value their thoughts and insight.
Keisha,
I find recording for both students and for instructors are helpful. It can be as easy and simple as Jing, or your institution may have its own tool. If used efficiently, discussion boards are still a great tool to use.
