Importance of technology

I'm an IT Professional. I'm an network infrastructure person by day. Tech is just that, infrastructure. It's ubiquitous. The goal is for it to be transparent to the user. For the longest tech promised more than it delivered. However, I believe tech is starting to live up to its billing over the last few years; mobility, the cloud, app dev, and business and financial transactions.

Sharon,

You are right. So much for examples of life long learning. We have to encourage our predigital colleagues by being the technology realist.

Instructors, especially our 'pre-digital' educators has the responsibility to learn basic technological skills. I hate to say that many of us are brought to this 'new age' kicking and screaming.

Aundrea,

That is SOOOOO true. The technology is so fabulous when the rep demonstrates it then when we get it there are "issues". We also have to keep us in the life long learning game. We have to continue to learn different technology as well as content.

I agree with the statement, specifically as it relates to LMS. I cannot necessarily recall any new form of technology that delivered as promised on the first round; however, as tech professionals develop innovative methods to deliver as promised or create a new method of technology, we are all able to get the most out of these products.

Sean,

I love your term ubiquitous! It really should be. I agree it is better. End user must be able to become familiar with the LMS quickly and use it easily. It cannot be the learning barrier. We as educators can help all students by using similar tools. That can be very frustrating and you don't want the technology to be the barrier to learning.
