Organizing Content and Time

I know in all of my instruction the course is already laid out for me, however it is still important [during chats] to ensure that I am organizing my content. Since the chat is a limited amount of time, it is imperative that I get the main points covered while still allowing time for the students to be involved in the conversation.

I am curious to know how everyone else organizes their time to ensure the content that must be covered for the week is covered.

Thanks for your insights!

Augustine,

That is a challenge. Do you grade for participation?

Dr. Kelly Wilkinson

As a facilitator, I find it challenging to maintain a high level of interaction with students during a live chat when only one student is present. Instead of having a one-to-one conversation with a student, I find it necessary to provide lectures that would be meaningful and informative to other students when they access the archived live chat.

Like yourself, I try to cover the most important points and take it from there..Sometimes a few bulletpoints help make a big difference too..

Karen,

Just because the content is laid doesn't diminish your role as the facilitator. You are the one that makes the connections and help construct the learning.
