Mobile devices and managing time...
Now that mobile technology is being utilized by students and faculty successfully, what strategy are you using to manage your time? Any tips?
Jacob,
You are right, they are not there yet. In fact with Blackboard, our students have to buy the app to utilize it on their phone. maybe one day, but not now. . .

Unfortunately the virtual classroom experience has not, by and large, been well replicated in an app for the courses I teach. So, currently they have limited functionality. However, I do hope that improvement will be made so that instructors and students can engage more via mobile devices to further enhance the convenience.

I think we are going to have to determine how we can incorporate those devices and keep them engaged when using it. This will be our challenge in the next few years.

Jeff,
As chalkboards and erasers are slowly becoming a thing of the past as technology takes over the classrooms, texting just may be a viable source of communication. I definitely can see how it can be used to engage students, especially since they are prohibited from being on their devices, yet always want to be on their cellular devices in the classroom. However, I can see some disadvantages to this, as well.
Jacqueline,
I am with you, I tried to send an email through BB using my phone and it was a disaster.

Angela,
I agree and I am with you. I have started putting my course calendar and sending it out to my class as an .ics file. The students then can put it in their phone, put it in Outlook, Apple, or Google or print it. My students love it.

I check my email communications more regularly. I'm so use to using a larger screen, I do not review courses on my tablet.
Using the calendar on my mobile phone is the only way I have been able to effectively manage my personal and professional obligations. I have the phone with me at all times. The calendar provides reminders and I can easily see a day, week, or month at a glance to schedule appointments around office hours, exams, and other priorities.
Jeff,
I haven't tried that. . . yet! I do know the number one way a student communicates is through texting. That is the optimum way to reach them.

I think if there is someway to incorporate texting that learning maybe enhanced. I know that there is an app that supports group texting. worth the try...
Bernadette,
I haven't seen much of ebooks as audio. It would be interesting. . .

I think tweets and blogs are good tools to venture out into as well..Tablets and notebooks can be a plus for reading a lot of materials..I would like to see e-books recorded so you can listen to the content, not sure if this is available already.
Rolando,
I do use my phone but BB doesn't work that great. I do encourage students to upload our course capture software so they can look at my lectures on phone or ipad. I think I am going to try using Facebook as a way to "talk" about content this semester. Stay tune. . . .
