Visual feedback

One very successful feedback method I have used with group projects is video feedback. I use a screen recorder such as jing.com to look at the groups assignment, this allows me to verbally point out good portions as well as portions in need of improvement. Students can see and hear the feedback and I can write notes on their document in live time. The response from students has been great they say it is the next best thing to being there in person. I must admit I only do this with group projects as it is fairly time consuming and to do it with each individual student seems overwhelming.

Viktoria,

Great. I am glad you are learning through this course and will keep trying new things.

Take care.

Thanks for the very good tip to use this kind of feedback. I will definitely try it.

Actually once you get started providing videos and audio for feedback it actually goes faster than giving information or highlighting information on a document and sending it back to the students. You get used to it rather quickly and the students love it. Thanks.

I often you video and audio to provide additional instructions to my students but I never thought of using them for feedback. I can see how it would be time consuming but I think that it would be worth it to do when possible. I have often times wondered if students are reading my feedback, which in most cases it seems that they don't because they ask me questions about their assignments that I addressed in my feedback. But then that leads to another scenario altogether in that they may not understand the feedback I give them. I think the visual feedback would help clarify my feedback and actually save me some time because I don't have to write a lot of words to say simple this like, "This right here."

Awesome!

Rodney,

Jing has saved me many a time. It's free and helps you create quick assessments or tutorials students can watch over and over. Keep learning.

I also have not heard of Jing, but will now look at to see how I can incorporate into my formative feecback.

Thanks for the great information!

Marek,

Using Camtasia as you are doing can be tweaked a bit to provide feedback to students. Jong is made by the same company.

Thanks.

I have not used jing for offering feedback, but am intrigued by the idea. I have used Camtasia videos to walk students through challenging assignments. Using these additional technology tools would be another method of communicating directions and feedback to students that have diverse learning styles. I know I am an auditory learner and would find jing feedback an effective learning tool for me. Thanks for the tip!

Stephanie,

We continue to learn from each other. I seriously tell my students (and it's true) - I learn something new every day! If you stop learning. . .you're dead. ;-)

I have not heard of Jing.com. I will have to review this and then apply which could bring a much needed enhancement in the classroom.

Leah,

Don't you love Jing. One of my favorite programs. I use it for feedback, tutorials and give students extra credit to develop tutorials as well. Thanks for your input.
