Even more Peer Preasure!

I think it is good to have peer review and feedback. If an instructor does this it must be noted what the ground rules are. I have found people are kinder but thoughtful with their feedback. Students take it seriously.

Amy,

We simply learn from getting other people's perspectives. Our peers are great to help us out. Thanks!

I think that instructors can even learn from the peer feedback in the classroom by seeing different perspectives be they cultural, personal or vocational.

Agnes,

One way I deal with this is I have students submit the peer assignment to me, I take off the students names (but keep track myself of whose paper I am giving to whom) and then the students provide feedback based on a rubric and then return the rubric to me with their feedback. I then forward the feedback back to the original students. Therefore, it's all done anonymously and I can "mix up" the friends. Hope this is helpful.

Agnes,

I agree that not all peers are comfortable providing feedback to others, but I think it's an important skill to develop. In our lives, in our careers, we have to provide feedback to others and be constructive in that feedback. I have students provide feedback in an anonymous environment so they feel more comfortable providing the feedback. Thanks!

Peer review enhances the learning experience. The trick is to get the students to respond to many of their peers' papers, rather than to two or three of their friends' assignments.
I noticed students respond more eagerly to higher quality papers, and often shy away from the poorly written ones.

Peer feedback could be a great tool. However, not all students are comfortable with it.
The good news is that an instructor can guide students through the process. A well thought-out peer review sheet can be truly helpful.

Jeanice,

I love using peer feedback. They come at it from a different point of view many times than I do and use different language to help their peers understand. Thanks!

I think peer feedback can be a great tool for learning. I find that students really have to think about the subject before they start evaluating another student.

Broderick and Kelia,

I like what you have shared about peer feedback being a good collaborative effort that enhances the class. Keep up the good work.

Kelia,

On the courses that I teach (accounting and finance) peer review and feedback is very important because it collaborates with the learning process and students feel better when reinforcing their ideas or discovering new ones.

kelia,

Peer feedback provides another frame of reference for our teaching and students' learning. Thanks for your input.
