Course revision

When the content of the course is out of your hands, how do you go about revising its content and delivery?

Nicholas ,

Yes, when we are dynamic or we make the content/assignment/project/etc. dynamic, we engage the students more. No "cookie cutters" for us! Thanks!

It's also important to deliver the info in a dynamic way for the students. Being as "active" as possible can also help things along when you're stuck with "cookie cutter" classes. Adding your own "flair" really makes it a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Sarah,

The content may be "given to us" as we have to teach the content effectively so that students are prepared for the next course or whatever may come next, but we, as instructors, have to have the flexibility to get students engaged and learning what they should be learning. Thanks.

When the content is out of your hands, you have to work twice as hard to be creative with all aspects of the course. I would hope that continual assessment would help you find additional and diverse material and approaches to stimulate your creativity and encourage student participation.

Keisha,

If you are given the content, you certainly can deliver it in a variety of ways. You can also bring in outside resources in addition to simply using the book.
