Self evals
Completing a self evaluation is very important so the student can actually see where the deficits are at. Like this improving is so much easier. For example, in coding, if the student does not know basic medical terminology, the coding will be confusing and almost impossible. By completing a self evaluation the student might be able to recognize areas that need improvement.

Self-evaluations can be done at any time. I ask students to self-evaluate on every assignment that has a rubric connected to it. They can self-assess using the rubric before they turn it in. That works for me.
This is a great point! How exactly do we implement it? Do we add it as a midpoint item, and maybe again at the end of the course...so the student can reflect on his or her performance?

We can be very critical in our self-assessment but it is an important part of the assessment process. Thanks for bringing that up.
I think that all evaluation should start with self evaluation, but we must give the students the information that they can use to evaluate themselves. This can be easily done as the instructor for this course has pointed out with the rubric. with this information they know what to self asses.
