Evaluation Process

The Summative process is very much subjective evaluation.

Zac,

Glad the students see that you are making the effort to really help them. Keep it up.

Job placement is a huge aspect of online learning. Especially when it comes to accreditation. Whenever I'm given the opportunity, I try to give advice to students about applying for jobs and interview practices. I've received positive feedback from students about this so far.

David,

Yes, a good rubric should be able to be used across sections of the same course with good results. Thanks for bringing that up.

Dr Crews,

I agree entirely with rubrics. I think that they help you evaluate your students in a more fair way. It also allows you to be more consistent across multiple sessions.

Trude,

Sure. Assessment should move beyond the individual courses and to the program itself. This can be done by having students complete an end of program assessment and then follow-up with them after their job placement and see if they believe they are prepared for the position. You can also ask employers to assess the graduates as well. Thanks for bringing this up.

What about evaluating the success of the course in terms of its contribution to program outcomes and long term measures such as job placement?

Shafi,

It doesn't have to be. It's just at the end. It can be objective evaluation with T/F and MC questions or less subjective through the use of rubrics.
