It is important to keep in mind that all students have varied learning styles. Keeping it organized and being available for questions and clarifications is important. Having patience with your self and your is tantamount.
I find that I am always learning more about every subject each time that I teach it
Cathleen,
Upon receiving my Ph.D., and ready then to conquer the world, I was reminded that acquiring a Ph.D. was something that I did on my own. While I argued that many people had made it possible along the way, the point that I would now have to work with others to get things done was the message I took to heart. My dog and I are still working on some old tricks, but I do find a little bit of humility goes a long way!
I really enjoyed your post, and I support it! I hope that helps!
Doug
Waqar,
Right on! An ongoing process it is. To me it seems like I have to teaching some thing about three times before I feel it is almost perfect - but it's never perfect. ;-) Thanks for your input.
Agreed. I think that is the most important question in this class and I like the emphasis of a course framework being an "ongoing" process because in the courses I can actually modify, it takes more than one round of teaching the class before I have a definitive sense of "What will make sense to my students"
Richard,
No matter what you do, you need to understand your audience to best deliver information. As your students are your audience, knowing them better helps you develop effective communication and ensure they understand the course expectations. Thanks for your input.
I believe that it is important to know who your students are,and how you can communicate at their level. It is just as important how you communicate as what the content of your material is . Every student may hear and understand a little different.
Cathleen,
Right on. Keeping the communication clear and simple is very hepful. We do communicate differently with others and in different situations. It's important that we can adjust our communication for our audience. Thanks!
Margaret, I think it is so important to use language that students will understand. The purpose of communication is to communicate, not obfuscate. So many educated over-achievers feel that they have to dazzle their students with their knowledge. In the process, they turn them off! Even though I have a Ph.D. I find that I communicate differently with my children, my students and the butcher, the baker and candlestick maker....and, of course, my dog! Each one of them thinks they are the center of my universe and understand me completely (I hope)!
Krystal,
Makeing sure the students know how to nagivate the site, where to submit assignments, etc. is very important. The easier and more intuitive, the better. Thanks!
I think it can be useful to get someone who is unfamiliar with the content/information, and even the e-learning process to look over your course. If that person can understand it and navigate it, you're probably on the right track.
Margaret,
Simple questions are good ones to ask. It is so very important that the students understand where to get information and where to post assignments. Communication is also essential. Thanks!
