Online facilitation and teaching skills in traditional classrooms
Can online facilitation improve teaching skills in the traditional class room?
I have made profound changes in my traditional class room due to my experience in online teaching and to taking these CEE courses.
Viktoria,
The F2F time does allow for instructors t get to know their students. I like to teach in a blended environment as well. Thanks for sharing.
My classes "blended" which means that I teach the same students F2F and online courses also. It makes easier this way, because I know my students from the classroom and I know them personally. The learning community is developing in the classroom and online. I try to use the best of the both world. So I believe that online facilitation can improve teaching skills in the traditional classroom and vice versa.
Barbara and Faryl,
I like hybrid as well. The students and instructor have the best of "both worlds" - F2F and online.
Thanks.
Barbara,
F2f is the type of communication we are used to. Sometimes it is difficult to figure out the best way to communicate online, but it is worth the effort. :-)
That is a great idea Faryl. That also teaches traditional students what online is like. I think hybrid is the best way to go anyway.
Definitely! It is much easier to go from online to traditional than the other way around. When working online, you learn what the missing pieces are, and how to avoid problems that you may have encountered online. You realize the value of face to face communications.
Faryl,
Good point. No matter in what environment we are teaching technology can be of assistance and help us be better facilitators. Thanks for your input.
I believe that can each enhance the other. I have learned to add technology to my traditional classroom to give students options for participation. I have learned to find face time in my online classrooms to help personalize the course.
Paula,
We do have to transfer and revamp our skills to become better facilitators online; however, those skills have also helped me become a better facilitator in my F2F clases as well. They compliment each other. Thanks!
Online facilitation is extremely different from F2F. I taught for several years in the traditional classroom and found it is much easier to communicate information. It takes special skills to communicate in an Online environment.
Albert,
Oh, that is good to hear. Many times we do not think about how teach the online classroom can influence the F2F classroom. Good point. Thanks for your input.
