Interesting question, Erik, there are some limits when teaching online versus ground courses. Written communication is very critical as this is one of the primary methods used to communicate. Some universities utilize connectivity programs that include live lectures. There are visual options for those that have or want to use a web camera as well as sound. The students also have the option to interact via a microphone or can type questions. Also, you always have the option of speaking to student via the telephone. This is another method that can aid in enhancing communication.
