E learning
E learning is at it's best when the student really understands the ins and outs of the learning system used in the course. For example, with Blackboard, many of my student have no idea they can go back and review some of their past exams. I encourage them to do this since I feel students need to see where errors were made so they can learn from them.
Jolly,
Students do not always starts with these skills. However, we can help our students understand the importance of self-directedness and pacing and even help them to develop these skills and organizations skills that will ensure their success in online courses.

well, maybe. Recent research has revealed that student locus of control, per se, self-directedness and pacing are significant variables in determining course completion.
Jon,
Can you explain why you think it won't be answered in a timely manner? What do you consider a timely manner. In a traditional university class you will see your instructor at best every other day. That means that you will have to wait 24-48 hours at least for an answer. In an online course the minimum response time might be 24 hours and I usually respond within a couple of hours (unless they post a question at 2am).

only thing with e learning is if the student has a question it may not get answered in a timely manner.
Marie,
Like any learning, we do need to guide our students in their learning process. This can include using the learning systems as well. We do need to make sure you students know not only the basics of their learning systems, but also the advanced features that can enhance their learning.
