Coaching for Activity Participation

Active participation is essential to online course completion success. However, sometimes a students activity level falls below expectations. What ideas do you have on getting the student back on track when they have fallen behind?

Great ideas. Thank you!

Ramona,

I would say two things, Communicate and Motivate. If the student is falling behind there might be underlying issues the student is experiencing that is causing the problems. Communicating with them directly about their progress and what is going on will give you a better chance of getting to the real issues and helping to resolve them. Find a way to motivate them. If you did an introduction forum, go back and read it again for that student and see if there is something in their bio that you can use to encourage them on their work. For example if they listed a hobby and they might be able to use that in a research paper or an assignment, encourage them to connect the assignment with their personal interests and that might be enough to get them re-motivated and back on track.
