Bells and Whistles

How much multi-media content do you think is needed in an on-line class to make it engaging to students? I would like to use carefully selected links to You Tube or certain websites to stimulate students to think. Do most CMS allow these aspects of multi-media? How important is it to use a video clip of yourself as the instructor?

Natalie,
Sometimes this is the best approach. As higher performing technology becomes more pervasive, this may become less of an issue.

That's a good point. I still have students now who can't get their audio right or their resolution is too low. they don't understand the issue, so I sit and adjust everything on my end, only to find the issue is on their end. I do have a few Youtube clips that I play, but some students have issues viewing them. Now, I post the link in the announcements and just have students view on their end if their computer allows.

Hi Julie, When I read end of course evaluations from learners consistently I hear that they would like more multimedia elements in the course! Most CMS allow this or you can link outside of the course. The most important consideration is the learner and their capability of running applications on their end. There are still many learners who are working with the bare minimum of technology. Tina
