Being there
There needs to be a collaborative learning experience using the universities curriculum. Communication and presence of the instructor is the key to a good learning environment. There needs to be active learning with student faculty contact, along with respect for the different ways of learning. As a professor we need to be active and present in the online classroom.
rebecca,
Can you speak to how you are able to do that with your online students? How do they feel supported by you in a digital environment?

To me support is the most important key to our on-line students. They need to know that you as instructor will be there for them even if you are not physically present.
Tyra,
I think it is extremely important that we teach all of our students how to be life long learners and teach them HOW to learn. There is no way we can ever teach them everything in a subject area, we have to guide them through the foundations and give them the skills to learn the new content as it changes. I teach a lot of IT courses and I focus strongly on these concepts.

Hi Zara,
I really like the term collaborative. While I feel that it is important that I demonstrate a strong knowledge of the subject, I also like to admit that the field I am in is constantly moving forward and we can all continue to learn. The students tend to respond better when they know that I want a dialogue about the topic, as opposed to them being stressed about providing the "right answer".
Best,
