I absolutely agree. I feel it is essential to review the grading rubric when giving out the assignment so the student can formulate what the focus should be. Along with the grading rubric I usually provide an example of the assignment or go over how the assignment could be prioritized. This seems to assist early on in the week to get the students motivated instead of wasting a day or two because they are unclear on how to start the assignment.
