inFormative Feedback
When feedback is effective the student and instructor will reap the rewards in all future assignments
Feed back is a key way to keep an ongoing and compelling dialogue with our students.
I also think posting best examples of superior work in teh forum is a great tool also. It helps all the students and the student contributor real boost of positive feed back too.

Hi Michelle,
While many of us likely learned similar approaches through various training programs, one element you noted is often overlooked--the inclusion of resources to encourage future development.
Far too often, a student with a satisfactory score on an assignment believes they have truly mastered the topic. In my experience, that is rarely the case. I include links to outside resources on various subjects for all my students. Many have written me follow-up emails thanking me for the additional information that will help them continue to improve.

Dr. Anastasia,
Great approach. This way the students get to learn and grow during the course while also being supported in what they are doing.

I concur with this statement. Feedback is where I have one on one access to the student. For this reason I try to offer a rounded feedback. Essentially, I state the positive aspects of a post or assignment. I include areas that need improvement. Finally, I offer encouragement.
I agree it needs to be effective and continuous...
Michelle,
Excellent summation and reminder of the critical nature of feedback. Your comprehensive technique is very good. Thank you for your contribution.

I absolutely agree. Feedback is useless if it not informative and assist with future interactions. I was taught to use the sandwich approach -- begin with a positive comment, sandwich in any negative feedback and end on a positive note. Informative feedback should also provide resources for the student to use if appropriate.
