Individual Assistance in the Virtual Environment

Early on instructors identify issues with students. Some have problems articulating or completing assignments. I find it is important to connect with the student and provide advice on how to improve. I find in the first week of forums and assignments, I can identify these issues. It is best to address short comings right away.

Good thoughts, Antonia. I agree, and I find it is challenging to communicate effectively with students that have shortcomings. Providing positive feedback, followed by constructive criticism, followed for a positive final sentence is a strategy that has worked for me.

Antonia,

I agree. Identifying issues that students have early on gives us a chance to help the student's be successful. The more I teach online, the more I find that I do a better job of identifying issues with students early on. I guess that is one of those skills we develop over time as instructors.
